Meet Nanci Robart
Nanci Robart joined The Tatitlek Corporation (TTC) Board in the summer of 2018, bringing with her a deep-rooted connection to Tatitlek, AK, and a commitment to serving her community. Born and raised in Tatitlek, Nanci is the daughter of the late Tatitlek Chief Gary Kompkoff and Nancy Kompkoff. She, along with her five sisters, grew up in their family home and graduated from Tatitlek Community School.
From an early age, Nanci’s parents set a high standard for excellence and community service. She and her siblings were often the first to volunteer for chores for their grandparents, Charlie and Katie Selanoff. Whether cleaning their grandparents’ house, processing fish, or berry picking, Nanci and her siblings learned the importance of hard work, family and her traditional lifestyle.
One of Nanci’s fondest memories is the laughter shared with her sisters during their many family dinners. “Looking back at our family gatherings, our crew was huge, but we never felt crowded. We were always laughing,” she recalls with a smile.
Nanci married Floyd Robart from Port Graham, and they began raising their children in Valdez, where Floyd found work with TCC, LLC. Despite building a life in Valdez, Nanci felt the call of her Tatitlek home. In 2018, she returned and was elected President of the IRA Council. The learning curve was steep, and the workload was immense, but her determination and the values instilled in her by her parents saw her through.
During this time, Nanci also joined the TTC Board. Balancing her new role as President of the IRA Council with her responsibilities as a board member was challenging, but her drive to make a positive impact for her home and shareholders kept her motivated.
Nanci’s commitment to her community extends beyond TTC. Influenced by her parents’ example of always helping where needed, she has joined several other boards, including the North Pacific Rim Housing Authority board, the Chugach School District board, and the Chugach Regional Resources Commission board. “The organizations that do work here [Tatitlek] are all connected. They are a small piece of the whole community, so it’s important to understand what they do.” she explains.
When asked about what motivates her as a board member, Nanci reflects on the strong relationship between the Village and the Corporation. “Our Tribe worked hard to establish our Corporation over 50 years ago, to help our people. Today, I want to make sure to continue that great work not only to help our Village thrive but also to preserve our Tatitlek heritage for all Tatitlek shareholders and their children, for generations to come.”
Nanci is the proud mother of three children: Ben Kompkoff, Lydia Robart, and Talya Robart. She has been happily married to Floyd Robart for over 20 years. Her dedication to her family and her community exemplifies the values she holds dear and continues to inspire her work with TTC.
Nanci Robart’s journey, from her childhood in Tatitlek to influential roles in multiple organizations, showcases her unwavering commitment to her community. Her leadership and dedication ensures that the legacy of the Tatitlek people remains strong and vibrant for future generations.
