Honoring Traditions and Community
Cultural Heritage Week once again brought together youth, elders, instructors, and families for a week of learning, leadership, and connection to culture. Programs like this play an important role in preserving our Tatitlek heritage and Alaska Native traditions by creating opportunities for young people to learn directly from elders, culture bearers, and community members. A highlight of the week was recognizing students who exemplified leadership, respect, teamwork, responsibility, and a willingness to help others.
2026 STUDENTS OF THE YEAR:
- High School: Glenn Christmas Jr. and Nathan Vlasoff
- Middle School: Noah Geffe
We are especially proud that all three recipients are from Tatitlek and reflect the values, character, and community spirit that Cultural Heritage Week seeks to foster.
The week concluded with another successful auction, raising more than $28,000 to support future Cultural Heritage Week events. Quyana to the instructors, volunteers, families, sponsors, and community partners who help ensure our Tatitlek and Alaska Native heritage continues to be shared with future generations.
