We are excited to welcome Chelsey Palmer as our new Education and Traditional Programs Assistant with Copper Mountain Foundation! Raised in Tatitlek Village, Chelsey has participated in many of the programs she will now help support. From Cultural Heritage Week and Fish Week to starting her first job at Kelly House at age 16, Chelsey’s new role brings her experience with these programs full circle.
We asked Chelsey a few questions about her new role and what education and cultural programs mean to her.
What interests you about working for The Tatitlek Corporation’s Copper Mountain Foundation?
I am most interested in the support given from The Tatitlek Corporation’s Copper Mountain Foundation in furthering my college education, while also gaining valuable work experience
that can be a steppingstone in a career. I see this as an
opportunity to grow academically and professionally while also giving back to the community that raised me.
What are you most excited about in your new role?
This new role at The Tatitlek Corporation’s Copper Mountain Foundation excites me because I get to support the Village in a different way than I did when I was living in Tatitlek. I am looking forward to using the experiences and values I gained growing up
in the Village to make a positive impact through my work.
What role has The Tatitlek Corporation and Copper Mountain Foundation had in your upbringing in Tatitlek Village?
The Tatitlek Corporation’s Copper Mountain Foundation has played a huge role in my upbringing in Tatitlek, from participating in Culture Heritage Week and Fish Week to learning values, traditions, and new skills year after year to starting my first job at 16 through the Copper Mountain Foundation’s Kelly House. These experiences and opportunities helped shape who I am today and gave me a path for what I want to do with my future.
How do education and cultural programs make an impact on the shareholder community?
Cultural programs benefit the shareholder community by bringing people together into a healthy, supportive environment while creating opportunities to learn, connect, and preserve culture and traditions. Educational programs give shareholders the support financially to go into post high school vocational and training programs or college.
