Roy Totemoff was born in Anchorage and raised in Tatitlek Village, as one of the middle of ten siblings. He grew up mainly living a subsistence lifestyle.
Like many shareholders, Roy subsisted off the land, hunting in the winter and fishing in the summer, learning early that there were certain things you had to do in order to survive that lifestyle.
His first job was working for his dad as a deckhand when he was a teenager, earning $20 for the entire summer. What he gained was work ethic, humility, and pride in providing. As he grew older, Roy took on any construction, utility, or maintenance job available. He worked his way into foreman roles and took vocational training whenever opportunities arose, believing in learning by doing.
Roy and his wife, Evelyn, raised three children together, grounded in those same values. In 2006, Roy answered the call to serve as CEO of The Tatitlek Corporation. He moved from Tatitlek to Anchorage with a clear sense of responsibility to shareholders and the future of the Corporation.
Today, Roy leads with humility, respect, humor, and high expectations, holding himself to the same standards he expects of others. He believes deeply in TTC’s mission and in creating opportunities for shareholders to live healthy lives and grow professionally. From earning $20 as a deckhand to helping steward shareholder resources for future generations, Roy’s leadership comes full circle, grounded in where he came from and who he serves.
“I didn’t grow up with much, but I learned early that working hard as a team, and showing up everyday matters. That’s how we move forward together.”
