The “Tatitlek at Fifty,” event was a deeply moving experience, commemorating five decades since TTC’s incorporation. This event allowed us to reflect on the incredible journey that brought us to this point and pay tribute to those who were instrumental in our Corporation’s founding.
We came together to remember and honor our visionary incorporators: Andrew Allen, Phillip Allen Sr., Edward Gregorieff, Fred Vlasoff Sr., and Steve Totemoff Jr. These pioneers displayed remarkable foresight and determination when they incorporated The Tatitlek Corporation. Their actions secured the future of our community and ensured the preservation of our cultural heritage.
In addition to the incorporators, we celebrated the remarkable contributions of our first board members, including Andrew Allen, Edward Gregorieff, Fred Vlasoff Sr., Mary Gordaoff, and Jessie Tiedeman. Their leadership set the stage for the strong and resilient Corporation we know today.
The event also provided an opportunity to revisit historical challenges that have shaped our community over the years. We faced significant obstacles such as the relocation of Tatitlek Village, the devastating 1964 earthquake, and the catastrophic Exxon oil spill. Yet, through unwavering determination, guided by our cultural values, we persevered and emerged stronger.
The commitment to supporting our shareholder community has remained constant throughout these past five decades. With the passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA), we adapted to the ways of a Corporation, ensuring that the well-being of our people remained paramount.
Today, our dedicated leaders, including Roy Totemoff, Sheri Buretta, Kristel Komakhuk, Ken Vlasoff, and Nanci Robart, work tirelessly to uphold the legacy of those who came before us. These leaders have paved the way for future generations by developing crucial shareholder programs that focus on education, preservation, training, community development, and burial assistance. These programs are a testament to our enduring commitment to our people, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to thrive.
