The Tatitlek community came together once again for Fish Week, a time dedicated to sharing knowledge, strengthening connections, and carrying forward traditions that have sustained generations.
The idea for Fish Week came from Nanci Robart, who helped plan the gathering as an uplifting and meaningful way to bring people together. The gathering held special meaning for Tatitlek as the community was grieving the loss of David Totemoff Sr. and several other community members. What started as an opportunity to gather and practice Tatitlek’s subsistence way of life has grown into a meaningful annual tradition centered on shared learning, connection, and community strength.
The 2026 event was made possible through the leadership and funding support of the Tatitlek IRA Council, The Tatitlek Corporation, and Copper Mountain Foundation, along with generous contributions from Alaska Air Transit, Chugach Regional Resources Commission, Chugachmiut, and North Pacific Rim Housing. Special thanks also go to Sleepy Bay Salmon for delivering fish for this year’s gathering.
