School Renovation
In 2022, we were proud to bring out Senator Lisa Murkowski and her team, along with staff from the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, to visit Tatitlek. Their visit helped secure critical funding for the Chugach School District’s renovation project.
Getting upgrades of this scale is no small task in a rural community. Built in 1986, the Tatitlek School had not seen significant improvements in more than forty years. In recent years, the building had shown serious wear, including rotting siding and porches that had to be blocked off for safety. Securing funding and managing construction in a remote location required careful coordination and strong partnerships between the district, contractors, and community.
The project ran from May through October, addressing nearly every part of the building. Crews replaced the roof, installed new siding, upgraded mechanical and electrical systems, improved insulation, added new kitchen equipment, and poured new concrete for the entry and ramp. The result is a brighter, safer, and more efficient school for students and staff.
